The Duchess Set Design

The Duchess was a wonderful movie which I completely enjoyed (through all of my tears). The sets and locations were amazing. The Duchess was nominated for and won many awards in 2008, most notibly for it's costume design. The clothes were to die for along with the sets.

The movie is based on the historical novel Georgiana The Duchess of Devonshire, "Georgiana Spencer became Duchess of Devonshire on her marriage to the Duke in 1774, at the height of the Georgian period, a period of fashion, decadence, and political change. Spirited and adored by the public at large she quickly found her marriage to be a disappointment, defined by her duty to produce a male heir and the Duke's philandering and callous indifference to her."

The Duchess was filmed at various locations in the UK. Pictured above is the House of Chatsworth which was Georgiana's home after she married the Duke. Below is the home of her family in the movie which is Kedleston Hall and Gardens in the Peak district.
The buildings and gardens really steal the stage in my eyes but the interior sets are also just beautiful. The marble and the gold guilded furnishings are perfect along with the artwork and the accessories.

Below is the trailer from the movie.
